Leslie Gordon, E-RYT-500 completed both her 200- and 500-hour yoga teacher trainings with Joseph LePage and Integrative Yoga Therapy. It was through subsequent workshops and trainings with Doug Keller, Scott Blossom, Dr. Loren Fishman, Bo Forbes, Erik Schiffman and a host of other gifted teachers she discovered her passion for helping EVERY BODY access yoga. Her classes and style of teaching put yoga into the hands (and bodies) of everyone.
Through yoga, Leslie found ThaiYoga and discovered a new way to help people relieve stress. That has led to trainings for those living with combat-related PTSD, back problems, osteoporosis, foot reflexology and Reiki. She a Basic SUP and Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga Instructor on the Farmington River in Collinsville, CT and has also recently ventured into the world of Aerial Yoga! She believes that the healing modalities she offers are just tools in the giant toolbox of wellness. Some tools work better than others for some people, and Leslie wants to help people find the ones that work best for them.
“Giving back” is an important part of her belief system, and she is very proud to have been a volunteer for BeadforLife, an organization that provides jobs, medical care, education and loans to women in Uganda by helping them create beautiful paper beads and jewelry. Leslie is deeply grateful to be who she is, living where she lives in the world today without the constant fear of war, hunger and physical harm. She has also volunteered extensively in her children's schools and in various PTO positions, including President three times.
Leslie’s classes are non-vinyasa style with an emphasis on alignment with the idea that “the perfect pose is the pose that is perfect for you,” and one size definitely does not fit all. Since we all come in different shapes and sizes, why would our yoga poses look the same? Her hope is that your practice is one that is comfortable for you, no matter what you look like, how old you are or what kinds of injuries you arrive with. Gratitude is the key to happiness for her, and she hopes to share that theme in her classes.
Leslie began teaching under the tutelage of Bev Kent and was formerly the Director of Yoga Programs at the Enlightened Way Wellness Center in Tariffville, CT and the Yoga Director at the InnerSpace Yoga and Pilates Studio in Avon, CT, and most recently co-founded the Be.Yoga Yoga Studio in Avon, CT. Prior to teaching yoga, she worked at the Noah Webster House in West Hartford, CT as the Director of Volunteers and Public Programs and in the Education Department at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in Brooklyn, NY.
She earned her BA in Religious Studies at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio and continues her volunteer work there as Secretary of her graduating class and as an alumni representative.
At home, you might find her with a book, out in the garden, tracking wildflowers and wild edibles, painting with friends, listening to good music of all genres. She loves a good joke and appreciates a fun sense of humor. Lighten up!
Her favorite quote is from Emerson: “Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
